What is Entropy?
Entropy is a market indicator designed to measure the level of chaos or structure in price movements. By using a mathematical formula, it helps identify whether the market is trending clearly or is caught in a state of noise.
- Low Entropy: When Entropy is low, the market exhibits clear trends, meaning prices are moving in one dominant direction. This indicates market stability, making it easier for traders to predict price movements.
- High Entropy: High Entropy signals that the market is experiencing chaos, where prices fail to move in any clear direction. This indicates that the market is noisy, and trading opportunities may not be reliable.
Based on Entropy, the market is sorted out into 3 key phases:
- Stable Phase: The market is trending and stable.
- Neutral Phase: The market is neither trending nor chaotic.
- Chaotic Phase: The market is in a state of high uncertainty, with random price movements.
How Entropy Voltex was built
Entropy Voltex was developed to bring entropy-based market analysis directly into your NinjaTrader 8 workflow, helping you understand the underlying condition of the market instead of relying solely on price movement. By analyzing the level of market entropy, it helps you identify whether the market is stable, transitional, or chaotic — and how likely a move is to continue or lose momentum.
The indicator includes 2 dedicated modes optimized for both Renko charts & time-based charts, giving you the flexibility to apply entropy analysis to your preferred trading style, instruments, and market conditions.
What does Entropy Voltex offer?
Entropy Voltex focuses on evaluating Entropy to determine whether the market is in a state of “stability” or “chaos”. It helps identify whether the current market movement is truly worth trading.
Additionally, Entropy Voltex offers a clear visual representation of Entropy lines, classifying the market into three distinct phases and showing how to identify each phase:
Trading Signals from Entropy Voltex
Entropy Voltex gives specific trading signals based on the current phase and Entropy’s movement:
Buy Signal:
- When it happens: Entropy crosses from low to above the lower threshold, and the current candle is bullish.
- What it means: The market is transitioning from a stable phase into an upward trend, signaling that it’s a good time to enter a buy position.
Sell Signal:
- When it happens: Entropy crosses from low to above the lower threshold, and the current candle is bearish.
- What it means: The market is transitioning from stability into a downward trend, signaling a perfect opportunity to sell.
Confirmation Signal (Supplementary signal for holding a trade):
- When it happens: Both the fast and slow chaos score lines drop below the lower threshold and move toward zero.
- What it means: The market is deemed stable, and this signal suggests you might consider holding your current position, as the market is in a highly stable state.
How to trade based on market phases
Entropy Voltex is built on a simple yet effective approach. By understanding the current market state, you will know:
- When to trade
- When to stay on the sidelines
- When you truly have the advantage
Stable phase:
In this phase, the market is exhibiting clear trends. The best approach is to assess how long the current trend will last. You should continue holding your trade unless a signal prompts you to exit.
Transitional phase:
As the market enters the transitional phase, prices start moving more clearly. This phase is a great opportunity to make new trades as the trend becomes more defined.
Chaotic phase:
In a chaotic market, unpredictability reigns, and signals are often unreliable. During this phase, it’s best to reduce your trading activity, as market conditions are too risky.
Tip for optimal use:
For the best results on Renko charts, it’s recommended to use configurations like 20/2, 40/4, 12/2, 8/2, and 4/2 depending on the instrument and your trading style. These configurations align perfectly with the three market phases identified by Entropy Voltex, providing a clearer view of the market’s behavior.
